SERGIO MARIO ILLUMINATO – Curator, artist, director, writer. Born in Catania, he lives and works in Rome. He holds a master’s degree in literature and philosophy, painting, sculpting and cinema, as well as a certified Master’s in ‘Contemporary Art’ from the MoMA in New York. He is the President of the VulnerarTe APS Movement and the Editor-in-Chief of ‘VulnerarTe Magazine’. Registered in the order of journalists of Lazio since 1993, he served as Chief of the Information and Communication Office for the United Nations Environment Programme. He has curated, among others, the following exhibitions: ‘iosonovulnerabile’ in the former Pontifical Prison of Velletri; ‘Around Futurism’ in Villa Madama, in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, in the Fondazione Memmo, in the Museo del Genio Civile, and in several foreign Embassies and Academies in Italy; ‘Around Seduction – Susanna de Lempicka’ in Palazzo Valentini, Rome. With the support and sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of a number of Italian embassies abroad, he has exhibited as painter and sculptor in different solo and group art events in the United Arab Emirates, Latvia, the United Kingdom, France, and Russia, as well as in Italy. As columnist on aesthetics and philosophy, he is the author of essays and art books. He is the author and director of the short film ‘VulnerarTe’ and the author and producer of the documentaries ‘Mediterranea’ and ‘30 Years of the Barcelona Convention’ for the United Nations Environment Programme and the Italian Government as well as of the documentary ‘Around Futurism’ for the Fondazione Memmo and the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research. He has also authored and produced RAI television programmes such as ‘Il Festival delle Azalee’, ‘AmoRoma’, ‘Homage to Toscanini’, and ‘Giù la Maschera, On Stage Against the Mafia’. He served as assistant director to Maurizio Scaparro at the Teatro Stabile in Rome and worked on ‘Memories of Hadrian’ with Giorgio Albertazzi and ‘Pulcinella’ with Massimo Ranieri.
